CEO: Dr. Shehu Kuranga Muhammad holds a Ph. D and D.E.A. (M. Phil) Degrees in Development Economics from Grenoble University in France in 1989 and 1986 respectively. Before then, he had earlier obtained Master and Bachelor degrees in Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1983 and 1979 respectively. He taught at Bayero University, Kano between 1980 and 1991 before leaving to join the then ICON LIMTED (Merchant Bankers). He left ICON to join Bank of the North as an AGM in 1993 and became a DGM in the year 2000. Following Banking consolidation, Bank of the North merged with others to form Unity Bank and Dr. Muhammad was appointed to head Several Departments and Divisions while he was in the employment of UNITY BANK PLC. These include, Public Sector Group Head, Strategic management, Corporate Banking and Commercial Banking aT an Ag General Manager.
Dr. Muhammad was appointed Executive Director (ED) to Keystone Bank, by the Central Bank of Nigeria/AMCON in August 2011. While in Keystone, he headed various directorates. He first served as ED Commercial Banking and later ED Corporate Banking. Following the resignation of the MD of the Bank, Dr. Muhammad was appointed Ag MD/CEO and served in that capacity between August 2012 and March 2013. Following the restructuring of the bank, he was appointed ED North and later ED Abuja in 2015. He resigned his appointment with Keystone in March 2017 after the successful divestment of the bank by AMCON.
Dr. Muhammad attended several courses overseas, and these include, Training on Post Office Bank in Cairo Egypt (2009), a course in Banking Software in Jordon (2006) and a course in Leading Corporate Renewal at IMD (Institute for Management Development) in Lausane, Switzerland in 2001.
He attended training on Public Private Partnership & Infrastructure Financing in UK in June 2012. He attended US EXIM Conference in Washington USA in May 2013, Attended an Executive Development Programme at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania USA in May 2013, Attended a training on Leading Change and Organisational Renewal at Harvard Business School USA in June 2014 .
He also attended an Insurance Training Course at Chartered Insurance Institute in London, England in July 2015. Dr. Muhammad was also at Columbia Business School, New York in September 2015 to attend a course on High Impact Leadership. In March 2017, he returned to Wharton Business School to do a course on Making Strategy Work.
Dr. Muhammad has written dissertations and articles on Banking and Finance. In addition to these, Dr. Muhammad has written several papers which he presented at seminars and workshops. He has also, while teaching at Bayero University Kano supervised several MBA research papers and research work done by his students. He has worked as a teacher in BUK, and at management levels in Banks for the past 30 years. Dr. Muhammad, is happily married and has children.
